Daily opportunities in the Great Commission

Posted: October 12, 2011 in Devotional

Mark 16:14–15, “(14) Later He appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen. (15) And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”

Oh wonderful grace! To move from rebuke to commissioning is a marvelous demonstration of the grace of our Lord Jesus. True, the disciples needed to be disciplined for their lack of faith regarding the testimony they had received, but yet rejected. But our Lord does not keep them in the place of rebuke, forever separated from the opportunity to be entrusted with the gospel – Jesus goes straight to the Great Commission and places upon them grand responsibility to take the gospel to the world.

Is it any different with us? So many times we’re given the opportunity to exercise faith in our Lord by telling someone else of His resurrection, and we shy away. Whether out of embarrassment or a lack of confidence – or even a lack of faith that God will not allow His word to go forth in vain – our mouths go silent and we let another opportunity pass us by. Surely if we ourselves were God, we would not give us any further opportunities, but instead allow us to stew in our failures. Yet praise God that our Lord is NOT like us! As our gracious Heavenly Father, He gives us opportunity after opportunity to follow Him in faith and to continue to share the good news of the gospel with people around us.

You have that opportunity today. Will you take it?
